Silage maize hybrids to secure feed efficiency in changing climate
Harvesting high-quality silage at right maturity is a major objective for farmers in Europe. 2 out of 3 farmers do not harvest at the right stage.
In addition, harvesting at the right date will become more and more difficult with global warming: The average temperature has risen by 1 degree over the last century and is expected to rise by 0.5 degrees per year until 2030. Moreover, climate experts predict summers with less rain and more drought for the future.
By breeding for drought tolerance for 15 years, the MAS Seeds R&D department has worked on all the morphological and physiological factors of the plant affected by drought.
This has improved the ability of plants to respond to stress. These genetics makes it possible to secure each stage of silage maize production, from harvest to animal feeding, including the quality of the silo. GREEN+ portfolio is the result of this research.
